MORE than 200 educators gathered recently to attend a special one-day talk series featuring 10 prominent international and local speakers about education in the 21st Century.

The inaugural event called Ed² (Ed-Squared) was organised by Sunago Education Group and comprised 21-minute presentations by thought leaders including activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Assoc Prof Richard Buckland from the University of New South Wales, Ariz Ramli who is known as rapper Caprice, Universiti Malaya Faculty of Education deputy dean Dr Adelina Asmawi, Dr Wagheeh Shukry Hassan from the Education Ministry and Microsoft YouthSpark Global Advisor Michael Teoh.

“The goal of Ed² is to identify and communicate the trends in education in Malaysia, and make it more effective for future generations,” said Sunago Education chief executive Sean Chee.

Dress Splicing Bodycon Lace Long Women Fit Split Coolred White Pencil Slim The theme of Ed² was “21st Century Education” and the speakers provided a range of perspectives on making education relevant for today’s learners.

In order to explore more on the topic of ‘21st Century Learning’, Ed² assembled guest speakers from various backgrounds and countries – each with their own valid points on 21st Century Education, who contributed insights that are useful to the state of education in our nation.

Marina started the ball rolling with her inspiring speech about gender inequality in our schools and society – suggesting that we should first address the state of gender equality within our schools before expecting society to adopt this mentality.

Dr Adelina focused on current education strategies while Aziz spoke on a renewed culture in learning among the youth, empowering teachers as the main drivers and to create great content enabling students from anywhere in the world to gain access to it.

Dr Wagheeh Shukry spoke on embracing failure and understanding innovation in the 21st century as an important element in improving and moving education forward.

Teoh recounted how it was love which inspired him to teach and educate people around the world, sharing that his school teachers and parents played a big role.

There was also a panel discussion by student entrepreneur and founder of UniStay Austin Wong, Universiti Teknologi Mara student leader Shafique Danial and an English teacher Santha Nair from Teluk Intan.

Ed² accomplished its aim of being an enlightening experience for the audience.
